Coomera Magpies AFC

The Coomera Magpies AFC is a vibrant, community-driven Australian Rules Football club based on the Gold Coast, Queensland, proudly competing in the QFA South League. Established in 1997, we welcome players of all ages and skill levels to join our Auskick, Juniors, Seniors, and Masters programs, fostering a family-oriented environment where fun, respect, and passion for footy thrive. With a rich history and strong local support, the Magpies are dedicated to developing talent, building connections, and celebrating the spirit of AFL in our community!

The journey of Coomera Magpies

What began in 1997 as a small local club has grown into a strong community of players, families, and supporters. From our early days as the Coomera Cowboys to becoming the Magpies, we’ve built a club that welcomes everyone who loves the game. Here’s how it all started.

1997
The Coomera River AFC (Cowboys) was officially founded on June 17, 1997, in response to the rapid growth of the Northern Gold Coast. The club’s colors were maroon and gold, with "The Cowboys" as their mascot. The team’s first home ground was the Coomera Hope Island Cricket Club before moving to Viney Park and later settling at Coomera Sports Park.
2000
The club rebranded as the Coomera Magpies JAFC, adopting black and white colors in alignment with their new identity.
2009
On September 7, 2009, the Coomera Australian Football Club (Seniors) was formed. The Magpies officially became part of the AFLQ system, solidifying their commitment to developing a senior pathway for players.
2013
The Magpies secured their first senior premiership, winning the SEQAFL Division 3 title. The reserves team also reached the Grand Final but fell short of victory. This success led to the club being promoted to the newly established AFLQ QFA South Competition.
2024
The Coomera Magpies now boast over 500 players across juniors, seniors, and masters teams. The club remains a community-driven organisation, fostering talent and strengthening its legacy in the Australian rules football landscape.
2026
The future of footy at Coomera just got a whole lot stronger. In 2026, the Coomera Magpies AFC is proud to officially introduce our very first Senior Women’s team!
2027
We are thrilled to officially announce a massive milestone in the history of the Coomera Magpies AFC. To keep up with our skyrocketing numbers and the incredible growth of our junior and senior programs, we have officially secured our second ground which will be avalible for day 1 of pre-season training!
